A Vessel. A Cage. A Machine. A Temple.

12–25 October 2024, Minuszwei, Vienna

The exhibition interrogates the representation of the body in (post-)heteronormative society and contemporary art, grounded in queer-feminist, decolonial, and anti-racist perspectives. It asks: What role does (non-)physical embodiment play in disrupting the hetero-patriarchal matrix? How are norms of gender identity and sexual practice constructed, and to what end?

Through a plurality of approaches and diverse strategies, the participating artists carve out alternative spaces of representation—spaces in which other voices and bodies can emerge beyond the confines of heteronormative and patriarchal frameworks. At the center stands the body: abstract or figurative, conceptual or concrete, visible or obscured. In these works, the body resists normative templates, unsettles neoliberal cultural policy, and affirms queer presence and potentiality.
